An insert is a document included in the package of a medication or vaccine that provides information about that product and its use from the manufacturer. Also called “labeling,” inserts provide healthcare providers and patients information about the intended use for a medication as well as correct dosage, ingredients, warnings, and much more. Prior to accepting any medical product, always read the insert first!
If you’ve been prescribed medication, you’ve probably received an info sheet like the one below. Is this an insert?
No, this is a high level look at a medication called the “Medication Guide.” It is not the manufacturer insert. Don’t worry, by the end of this training you will know exactly what is (and isn’t) an insert!
